Initial Plans

The topic for our documentary will be takeaways and fast food. We feel that the appropriate target audience for this documentary would be a young audience of men and women aged 17-35. This would target the main eaters of takeaways, which we feel would be appropriate as it would be interesting for these people to discover hidden facts about the fast food industry. For a documentary title, a simple and straightforward title would be suitable, as it would simply attract the correct audience, while not ‘trying too hard’ to make the documentary current or cool. Therefore, the title ‘Take Out’ would be fitting, as it relates to the themes of the documentary while seeming different to other documentaries which are on TV today, which often use hard-hitting serious titles. We therefore think that our documentary would be a refreshing break from the norm, and would offer light entertainment while being packed full of information.

In terms of the channel which we would place the documentary on Channel 4, which we feel is the most accessible terrestrial channel to our audience; it is a young channel which offers various other info-tainment style documentaries, and would fit in well with the schedule. Contributing to this, we found that the appropriate time for our documentary would be a slot between 8pm and 9pm – fitting in between the Channel 4 News and a more current drama or comedy programme e.g. True Blood. This would be an attractive time for our audience; not too late, not too early, and peak time for watching television – right in the middle of primetime, and just before watershed.
